Challenge
SoftBank faced the challenge of effectively communicating the vertical stratification and operational altitudes of its diverse communication platforms, including HAPS, satellites, and high-altitude balloons,in a way that was both scientifically accurate and visually intuitive. Traditional flat visualizations failed to distinguish the true altitude differences between platforms, making it difficult for audiences to grasp the multi-layered nature of SoftBank's advanced network infrastructure across the troposphere, stratosphere, space, and outer space.
Results
The ORA Sphere enabled SoftBank to present a layered, immersive animation in which each communication platform was displayed at its accurate altitude above the Earth, complete with clear altitude labels and visual separation between the different atmospheric layers. This advanced visualization allowed audiences to quickly and intuitively understand the spatial hierarchy of SoftBank's connectivity solutions, significantly improving clarity and engagement at the installation. The result was an elevated visitor experience and a powerful demonstration of SoftBank's technological innovation.

About SoftBank
The Challenge
SoftBank, renowned for its pioneering work in global telecommunications, needed a way to vividly communicate the complex, multi layered architecture of its airborne and space-based communication platforms. Standard two dimensional displays placed all platforms, whether flying base stations, satellites, or high altitude balloons, at the same level, failing to convey the crucial differences in operational altitude. This limitation created confusion among audiences and hindered SoftBank's ability to effectively showcase the sophistication and scale of its network infrastructure.
The Solution
Seeking a more impactful and educational solution, SoftBank turned to the ORA Sphere, a spherical digital display renowned for its immersive, high-resolution capabilities. The decision was driven by the need to create a visually striking, three-dimensional experience that would accurately represent altitude differences and support scientific learning. By leveraging the ORA Sphere's unique projection technology, SoftBank collaborated with the content creation team to design a layered animation where communication platforms such as HAPS, OneWeb satellites, and high-altitude balloons like Sceye were positioned at their real-world operational altitudes. Altitude labels were added to reinforce clarity. This approach ensured each layer from city buildings and clouds, through the troposphere and stratosphere, to space and beyond was visually distinct and educationally meaningful.
The Results
The installation of the ORA Sphere at SoftBank produced immediate and impressive results. Visitors experienced a captivating, scientifically accurate representation of the spatial relationships between the platforms, with visual depth and clearly differentiated altitude layers. Through the Sphere's 80cm display, three key platforms were visualized across four distinct altitude layers, each marked with clear labeling. This approach significantly enhanced audience engagement and comprehension, achieving SoftBank's aim to demystify the complexity of advanced communication networks. The immersive demonstration reinforced SoftBank's reputation for technological leadership and innovation, while providing a memorable educational experience for all attendees.
