Integration of the ORA Sphere at the Cité de l'Espace in Toulouse
Industry
Museums & Galleries
Objective
The Cité de l'Espace wanted to transform a room into an immersive science engagement space, capable of illustrating Earth and space dynamics in real time using satellite data. The challenge was to orchestrate an intuitive educational experience that would synchronize multiple devices (the ORA sphere, wall projections, and touchscreens) while allowing visitors to interact with and explore scientific data collaboratively.
Results
The arrangement of the interactive sphere and synchronized wall projections enables a clear and spectacular real-time visualization of climate and oceanic phenomena.

About the Cité de l'Espace
The Cité de l'Espace is a scientific and cultural park dedicated to astronomy and space exploration, located in Toulouse and opened in 1997. Designed as a science engagement hub, it allows the general public to discover the world of space through interactive exhibitions, planetariums, an IMAX cinema, and full-scale replicas of iconic spacecraft. The Cité de l'Espace also offers educational programs, immersive experiences, and activities for families, schools, and businesses, with the goal of making space sciences accessible and engaging for all.The Objective
Before integrating the ORA sphere, the Cité de l'Espace was looking for an innovative solution to transform a traditional room into an immersive environment dedicated to science engagement. The goal was to enable the observation and understanding of Earth and space systems through a visual and tactile experience, while making complex scientific data accessible and engaging for a wide and varied audience. The real-time synchronization of multiple data streams and the need for seamless interaction represented a major technological challenge.
The Solution
The Cité de l'Espace chose the ORA sphere, in collaboration with Kaléo, for its ability to seamlessly integrate a rear-projected interactive sphere, real-time satellite data projections on the walls, and a dedicated screen displaying the position of ESA satellites. This immersive solution transforms the room into a true scientific supervision center. Visitors interact with the sphere to explore different scenarios and benefit from an intuitive guided experience, encouraging collaborative discovery.
The Results
The installation of the ORA sphere has achieved a high level of engagement and visitor satisfaction, with visitors naturally taking on the role of satellite observer. Through an immersive surface, five interactive scenarios, and three real-time data streams, the experience is fully customizable and tailored to different visitor profiles. Available in three languages, the system contributes to the accessibility and inclusion of all audiences. Feedback from the head of science engagement confirms the solution's impact on strengthening the educational mission of the Cité de l'Espace.
