About La Gaîté Lyrique

La Gaîté Lyrique is a major cultural center in Paris, supported by the City of Paris, dedicated to contemporary creation at the intersection of digital culture, music, and social issues.
Its activities include exhibitions, live performances, concerts, talks, workshops, and educational programs that explore themes such as technology, media, ecology, democracy, and emerging artistic practices.

The Challenge

La Gaîté Lyrique sought to realize Nelly Ben Hayoun's vision for 'Shiny Gold', an exhibition designed to blur the boundaries between knowledge and play, transformation and accessibility. The museum needed a solution that would bring digital interactivity into a visually rich and surreal environment, encourage collective engagement, and withstand the demands of a high-traffic public space without sacrificing artistic nuance.

The Solution

After evaluating options for immersive digital interaction, La Gaîté Lyrique partnered with ORA to deploy their state-of-the-art interactive sphere. ORA's technology offered a 360° high-resolution projection system with multi-user touch capability and integrated spatial audio, all within a robust, museum-grade design. The decision was reinforced by the sphere's ability to seamlessly integrate animated content, such as the exhibition's signature octopus, into the gallery's sculptural and playful context. As Nelly Ben Hayoun stated, “ORA's sphere brought a new dimension of interaction and engagement to the 'Shiny Gold' exhibition, perfectly complementing my approach to art as a game of transformation and knowledge sharing.” The installation process included turnkey delivery, on-site setup, and curator training to ensure operational excellence and creative flexibility throughout the exhibition.

The Results

During the 5.5-month exhibition, the interactive sphere attracted over 30,000 visitors, with more than 8,000 unique interactions logged and an impressive 85% engagement rate. Visitors were drawn to the playful, tactile experience, enhancing both individual discovery and collective enjoyment. As highlighted by the curatorial team: “The collaboration with ORA enabled us to offer visitors a unique, immersive experience that aligns with our mission of democratizing access to contemporary art.” The success of the installation set a new standard for immersive museum experiences, reinforcing La Gaîté Lyrique’s position as a leader in innovative cultural programming.
